San Fernando is a coastal component city in the province of La Union. It serves as the provincial capital as well as the regional center of the Ilocos Region.

The city has a land area of 102.72 square kilometers or 39.66 square miles which constitutes 6.86% of La Union's total area. Its population as determined by the 2015 Census was 121,812.
