Lucena is a coastal highly urbanized city in the CALABARZON region. Although administratively independent due to its distinction as highly urbanized city, Lucena is commonly grouped with the province of Quezon. The highly urbanized city also serves as the provincial capital.

The city has a land area of 80.21 square kilometers or 30.97 square miles. Its population as determined by the 2015 Census was 266,248. This represented 1.85% of the total population of the CALABARZON region.
