Marawi, formerly known as Dansalan, is a landlocked component city in the coastal province of Lanao del Sur. It serves as the provincial capital.

The city has a land area of 87.55 square kilometers or 33.80 square miles which constitutes 0.65% of Lanao del Sur's total area. Its population as determined by the 2015 Census was 201,785. This represented 19.30% of the total population of Lanao del Sur province, or 5.34% of the overall population of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
