South Upi is a landlocked municipality in the province of Maguindanao del Sur, which was created from the once-unpartitioned province of Maguindanao.
The municipality has a land area of 318.95 square kilometers or 123.15 square miles which constitutes 3.20% of Maguindanao's total area. Its population as determined by the 2020 Census was 43,197. This represented 3.22% of the total population of Maguindanao province, or 0.98% of the overall population of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
