Wao is a landlocked municipality in the coastal province of Lanao del Sur.
The municipality has a land area of 485.24 square kilometers or 187.35 square miles which constitutes 3.22% of Lanao del Sur's total area. Its population as determined by the 2020 Census was 50,366. This represented 4.21% of the total population of Lanao del Sur province, or 1.14% of the overall population of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
