Datu Montawal, formerly known as Pagagawan, is a landlocked municipality in the coastal province of Maguindanao.
The municipality has a land area of 461.10 square kilometers or 178.03 square miles which constitutes 4.63% of Maguindanao's total area. Its population as determined by the 2020 Census was 37,314. This represented 2.78% of the total population of Maguindanao province, or 0.85% of the overall population of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.
