Iloilo City is a coastal highly urbanized city in the Western Visayas region. Although administratively independent due to its distinction as highly urbanized city, Iloilo City is commonly grouped with the province of Iloilo. The highly urbanized city also serves as the provincial capital as well as the regional center of Western Visayas.
The city has a land area of 78.34 square kilometers or 30.25 square miles. Its population as determined by the 2020 Census was 457,626. This represented 5.75% of the total population of the Western Visayas region. Based on these figures, the population density is computed at 5,842 inhabitants per square kilometer or 15,128 inhabitants per square mile.
